Modern, heritage stone roofing
Demand for authentic stone roofs continues to grow, but traditional methods of installing stone roofs have limitations. For example, they require highly skilled (and expensive) craftsmanship, they create heavy roofs, and testing has shown they can potentially allow water ingress at lower pitches. Conventional stone roofs are not recommended for pitches below 30° for these reasons.
Despite these challenges, natural stone remains unparallel in terms of its visual appeal and exceptional lifespan. The ArmouredStone system from Mayan has been designed to preserve this heritage while overcoming some of the drawbacks of traditional natural stone roofing.
Using the same natural stone installed on premium, skilled builds and re-roofs throughout the UK, the ArmouredStone system delivers the authentic look of traditional natural stone roofing in an easier-to-install, lighter, higher-performing and more cost-effective system.

Product Information
The Armoured Stone roofing system is supplied in square metre packs as a kit, each comprising three widths and one consistent length:
- 300mm x 450mm
- 450mm x 4500mm
- 600mm x 450mm
ArmouredStone features an adjustable gauge and it is possible to install the different sizes in random or patterned combinations as required. Its adjustable gauge means easy setting out and it is easy to achieve a traditional diminishing course design.
Lightweight natural stone roofing
The ArmouredStone systems offers a wide array of benefits.
How ArmouredStone works
ArmouredStone roof slates are manufactured from natural stone that is permanently bonded to a specially designed, high-performance, patented GRP plate. This process results in a ready-to-install stone roof tile.
A fire-rated GRP plate provides a resilient and fully waterproof layer underneath the stone roof slates. This plate extends across each side lap, removing the need to double lap the stone and offering complete protection from the elements. GRP has a proven working life in excess of 40 years.
Its unique upper curve prevents wind-driven rain and capillary-driven moisture from tracking over the head of the stone courses. The system’s lower “S” curve also adds a second barrier, preventing any moisture from entering the roof. This secondary weather seal system is made from highly durable EPDM tape that is pre-installed at each side lap.
Specially sourced, low-profile A4 stainless steel SlateFix screws ensure a secure fixing by sitting perfectly flush in the pre-drilled holes under the system.

BRE-rated performance as low as 17.5°
The ArmouredStone system was tested in accordance with the BS PD CEN/TR 15601 standard and compared it to a traditionally installed double lap stone roof.
Traditional natural stone roofs typically only remain waterproof at a pitch above 30°, but the ArmouredStone system allows fully-waterproofed stone roofs to be installed at pitches as as low as 17.5°. The ArmouredStone system was tested against extreme weather conditions (maximum rainfall and high rainfall with high wind speed) at a range of roof pitches and was found to dramatically improve the overall performance of a traditional natural stone roof.
